When people hear the word “New York,” the first thing that comes to their mind is New York City. However, you should know that aside from New York City, there are many other vacation spots that you can go to in this state. I have created below a short list of the best vacation spots that you should visit while in New York.

1. The Catskills – Based on legends, this is the place where Rip Van Winkle slept for almost 20 years. If you are traveling with the whole family, this is the best place where you should go while in New York because there are more than 2,000 animals in the park that you and your kids can watch.

2. Broadway – There are thousands of tourists who go to Broadway when they are in New York because it is one of the most popular vacation spots in that state. Broadway is home to many buildings, establishments, shops, and many others in the Manhattan area. In addition, you should at least watch even one show while you are in Broadway since it is home to many well-known theater shows such as “Penn And Teller” and “The Phantom Of The Opera” just to name some. Can’t get enough? There’s more: ‘Phantom of the Opera’ celebrates 25 years with cinema broadcast

New York City is the place that never sleeps, but away from the action life is somewhat normal. When looking for real estate, one must take several things into consideration. Do you want to be close to the nightlife, or a good distance from town? One of the reasons for spreading out from the downtown area, is the crime rate. Queens is a great area to raise a family. This area provides lower prices, which are still close to city life. Astoria, is the most popular neighborhood in the Queens area. It is becoming home for the 20-30 age group. It is just a short ride into the city by subway.

Ranked the 6 safest place to live in New York is the Midtown East, area. If one is looking to rent this area is prime. The average one bedroom unit, rents for 3,725 a month. That is an amazing return on investment. It is one of the most sought after neighborhoods in the world. The rich and famous live and work in this area. New York has many great neighborhoods. Check the crime rates and the cost of living before making a decision on which area to invest in.

Let’s face it, the words inexpensive and New York rarely are used together when thinking about apartments. New York City is one of the most expensive places to live since land is at a premium. Planning and research will be key to your success in finding affordable apartments.

Visit the city first so you get a feel for the many different areas within Manhattan. The attitude and atmosphere can change in as little as one block. Notate the sections you do not want to live in and then start looking. Is this new to you? Catch up here There are many apartment listing companies and brokers that are just waiting to take advantage of you so be wary. Look for apartments that say no fee if possible.

The amount of amenities in the apartment building will be reflected in the rent. A building with no doorman and no elevator will cost less than one that has one. Likewise, having a pool or health club will increase the cost. The closer you are to public transportation, either a bus stop or train station, will also be reflected in the rental rate. If you are ok with walking a few blocks to get on the bus then you can save money.

If the apartment has a view, of perhaps the city skyline or the water, then your rent will be much higher then one that overlooks another building or parking garage. Being flexible with all of these items can help you save money.

You can live just outside of New York City and save money too. Consider Roosevelt Island which is just a tram ride or 1 subway stop away from the Big Apple, or New York City. Long Island city and Brooklyn are also considered viable options when you cannot afford the city. If you absolutely must live in Manhattan but cannot afford it then consider taking on a roomate or two. Sharing the cost of the apartment can help you live out your dream.

New York is a major culinary destination, and many of the world’s most famous and expensive restaurants call it home. That doesn’t mean eating there has to be expensive. Try eating like a local to save money on food in New York.

Many of New York’s apartments are tiny with outdated, cramped or non-existent kitchens, but only the super-rich can afford 5-star dining for every meal. Carts selling coffee and donuts are a good deal, so are delis. Try bacon, egg and cheese on a hard roll, or cream cheese on a fresh toasted bagel for a filling breakfast for under 5.

Lunch is the best time to splash out. Many of the best restaurants are open for lunch service, often at lower prices than dinner. More economical still, hit the food carts and stands that are on most corners. Food carts selling everything from kebabs and falafel to hot dogs or soup are scattered throughout the city at bargain prices.

Dinner can be more challenging because most of the food carts close up around 6pm. That still leaves New York’s amazing pizza by the slice, hole-in-the-wall spots in Harlem and neighborhood restaurants. And whatever you do, don’t eat in Times Square.Still bored?

If you are planning to visit New York City, be prepared to take a taxi cab at least a few different times during your stay. Hailing a taxi can be intimidating in the city if you are not used to doing so. It is much easier to get a cab in New York if you know the insider tips.

Most cabs will not stop in the middle of the street to pick you up, especially if the curbs are filled with other cars. Walk down to busy corner and try to get a cab that is going the same direction that you need to go. This helps explain it more. If you are on a way street, you will need to walk up a block to pick up a cab going in the right direction.

There are hundreds of hotels in New York and one of the best places to get a cab is right in front of one of them. Most doormen will hail a cab for you, whether or not you are a guest of the hotel.

Don’t be afraid to stand at the corner and wave your hand until a cab pulls over. It may take a few minutes, but follow these tips and you will be successful with hailing a city cab.
